No Sh*t Sherl*ck

I posted a link to a funny article on Facebook and I received a personal message from a caring individual:

Donna,

Just checking -you know the article about networking is a spoof, right?

Of course, comedy only works if it’s built on truth – so there’s certainly some valid stuff there.

Hope all is well – keep the information flowing!

The article was from THE ONION!?! Is he an idiot or does he think I am? Each time I get over the most recent wave of anger, something arises to get me back into a foul mood. Yesterday I was about ready to hunt down the woman at the American Express department that deals with deceased customers… she had me BOILING! The anger didn’t dissipate. It stayed with me until I fell asleep.

Today I am feeling a bit better. Mr Onion only produced a flash of anger… it didn’t hang around.

I am so tired. I think I could actually crawl into bed and fall asleep.

I keep meaning to go swimming. The community pool opened. But the weather doesn’t agree or time gets away from me.

Tomorrow I plan on going to the Bensalem Amphitheater to see the Large Flowerheads perform hits from the groovy ’60s. Will I get there? Maybe. I wish the Rivers Rockabilly Trio could just perform there every week. Along with an Elvis stylist. That would make me very very happy.

Serverilicious

Dreamhost says the sites are up and the reason I am not seeing them is because the DNS needs to propagate across the World Wide Web. I must be patient.

Server, Server Where Have You Gone?

I thought I would wake up to butterflies and sunshine after the mess of yesterday. Sadly, no. 5 of my sites are down… one of which is my moneymaker. I have two support requests in to DreamHost. I hope they respond quickly but they are out in California so I have a feeling I will be waiting hours.

Error Establishing Database Connection… that sounds so bad, makes me want to weep.

Server Woes

Something happened today… my server got hit really hard… and I don’t know why! The Dreamhost surfer dudes weren’t much help even though I purchased phone support. In fact, the surfer dude on the phone appeared to be very exasperated with me. I finally just purchased their Dreamhost Virtual Private Server although I am really not sure that’s the real answer to the issue at hand. My traffic logs aren’t showing any unusual numbers. Mr. Surfer dude kept saying he thought it was a WordPress plugin causing the script overload which sounds more like an excuse than anything to me.

Everything seems to be back up and running. Fingers crossed it will be fine tomorrow.

Death brings… truth

Death brings with it so much more than just loss. It brings an uncomfortable truth. Death has a way of shining a light on relationships and allows you to see what is authentic and what is lacking. Over the last two months, certain relationships that I thought were strong and special have crumbled while other relationships that I thought were nothing turned out to be stronger than I ever imagined. Friends drove over 6 hours to be at my father’s memorial service while family members couldn’t be bothered with a 2 hour drive… much less picking up the phone.

I am trying to give some of them the benefit of the doubt… they are unsophisticated and just don’t know how to act or they are bothered and pained by death and are held back by their own fears or they’ve never experienced such a close, sudden loss that they don’t get it.

Of course, my mother says, “Say what you will, the truth is they simply don’t care enough.”

It’s a shame, really. But then again, it’s best to know where you stand with people.

And now comes the decision, what to do with this new found truth? Do you continue to be generous? Do you pretend not to care? Or do you drop out?

I don’t know.

Misquoted

Lisa and I went shopping yesterday. In the car, riding to TJMaxx, Lisa said, “I don’t like how you portrayed me on your blog.”

“I thought you didn’t read my blog anymore.”

“I don’t, I just made an exception yesterday.”

“What don’t you like about it?”

“You made me seem cruel and blunt.”

“You are cruel and blunt.”

“You misquoted me! I said, ‘Since someone wants her, why aren’t there guys out there that want us!”

So I offer this entry as a correction and as an apology to my sister… although I know how I transcribed it originally is totally correct.

Peeing in the Movies

I forgot to mention something about I Am Love. There is a scene where Tilda rushes into the bathroom, sits down on the toilet… and pees. During this pivotal scene, she thinks back to her affair with Antonio and smiles… she then wipes, flushes and FADE OUT!

There is only one other movie I’ve seen where the lead actress uses the toilet. Átame! otherwise known as Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!. Which leads me to wonder: What other movies feature characters using the toilet? And I am not talking about weird fetish stuff… I want mainstream movies in which a star goes to the bathroom.

Correct answers earn 5 points. Incorrect answers earn 4 points. Points may be redeemed at the concession stand.

I already remembered a couple with men: Austin Powers, A League of Their Own and The Hangover.

I Am Love

Last night I watched I Am Love with Tilda Swinton. I’ve been wanting to see it for ages, for two reasons. 1. Tilda 2. It’s resemblance to Visconti’sThe Leopard.

Watching movies has gotten easier since I moved my flatscreen into my bedroom and made my office a true office rather than my hub. I watched the movie using my VuNow with PlayOn to stream it via Netflix Watch Instantly. I was rather torn between I am Love and Billion Dollar Brain but I Am Love won out… mainly because I LURVE Tilda Swinton and have loved her since her early work with Derek Jarman, especially Edward II and later Sally Potter’s Orlando. I Am Love did not disappoint. Weird and lovely.

After rating the movie 5 stars on Netflix, it asked me:

Weird

That’s just so wrong but even more importantly, what does it say about ME??!?!?

Whatever, I plan on queuing up some John Cassavetes movies.

Little Treasure

A Facebook friend just shared this song. I never heard of the song or band before but I really like it. Check it out:

And check this out! Suzi Quatro covers it too!

Must learn more about Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.
