Things to remember
A lady wrote to Dr Gott and said since using sublingual vitamin B-12 and folic acid, she is a different person and no longer suffers from depression. (I don’t feel depressed, I just like to collect items like this just in case)

Raabid

OH MY GOSH!!!!!

Max Raabe is performing in PHILADELPHIA this Thursday!! I LOVE MAX RAABE! The last time I was in Berlin, Max was performing and I so badly wanted to get tickets. The friend I was visiting said the tickets were too much money.
“How can they be too much money if I am going to buy them? Don’t worry about the money, I am not often in Berlin and when will I ever have the chance to see Max Raabe again?”
“Okay, I will call and reserve the tickets.”
Days went by.
“Did you reserve the tickets?”
“Nein.”
“Please reserve the tickets.”
“Später.”
“Please do it now, I would do it except I can’t understand the call prompts.”
More days go by
“Have you reserved tickets?”
“Nein.”
“Please, I so want to see Max Raabe and the concert is tomorrow.”
“Ok.”
He dials the phone
“Es tut mir leid Donna, but they are sold out.”

They weren’t sold out this time!

Mad at the dirt

I did a little work in the garage. Broke down boxes, readied the recycling, trash bagged odds and ends. In the kitchen I wiped the counters and cleaned out the laundry closet. Finally, Lisa and I erected the Christmas tree although we did not decorate it.

I have a pumpkin pie baking in the oven. No, I didn’t make it. My mom gave it to me on Thursday and I had a couple of pieces but I didn’t think it was baked enough. Mom told me I should throw it in the oven for a half hour and it will bake through.

I want to clean my closet in my bedroom. Bag the last bit of summer clothes and go through the winter clothes and get rid of everything that is old or ill-fitting. We shall see.

This was a pretty productive holiday. I spent a lot of time working on the house. I just wish I could see more improvement.

If I can Dream

Last day of vacation. Tomorrow I work. I feel well-rested. I am ready to get back to bean counting.

I need to figure out what to do with my cell phone service. My contract is up in a couple of months. Do I stay with Cingular? Do I move to Sprint or one of the other services? The only thing I know for certain is I want a better camera phone, one that has more space and produces a higher resolution picture.

Today I really must get out and walk around. I need to move. If my body didn’t hurt so much from my fall, I would do my Go-Go Aerobics. Can you believe I am still in pain? Don’t get me wrong, I am healing and it doesn’t feel nearly as painful as it had, it’s just that I am not feeling 100% yet.

Elvis and Friends is almost over which means I must get my day started. There are rooms to clean and a dog to feed.

UNIQLO

Lisa and I drove to Freehold, NJ’s Raceway Mall to shop at UNIQLO. Last month I read an article about the store in the NYTimes and have wanted to shop there ever since. It’s a Japanese discount clothing store that specializes in good quality clothing. At first glance, I thought I found the answer to my dreams. I must have tried on a 1,000 different shirts all under 20.00. The problem was, nothing was terribly distinctive. I could get similarly priced items at TJMaxx. The jeans all had those white crotch whiskers that might be acceptable to a 15-year-old but not me. I left with a black jacket that reminded me of something from La Femme Nikita and a 10.00 velour, long-sleeved v-neck. If one opens near me, I’ll go again but I won’t drive to Freehold.

Coin Operated Boy

Lisa and I were a little late getting home last night. My plan was to leave at 6 and we did. It just took us an hour to reach the car. It was so much fun spending the afternoon with family. My little cousins Benji and Grace were overwhelmed by Bobo. They spent the entire time playing with him and asking questions.
“Cousin Donna, does Bobo like Porky Pig?”
“What is Bobo’s favorite color?”

My other cousins enjoyed the Dance Dance Revolution game. It was cute seeing them jump up and down on the DDR pad.

On the car ride home I called John and left a voicemail message letting him know we’d be home at 8. John never called me back and I just assumed he found something better to do. I changed into sweat pants and got on my computer with the plans of putzing for the rest of the evening. Suddenly there was a knock at my window. I practically jumped out of my skin. I ran to the door and opened it with the belief I would meet a serial killer who I would have to dispatch using only my fists of fury. Instead it was John holding a bunch of DVDs. How cool is that? I expected nothing. I am beginning to think it may be a good thing to have zero expectations of other people. I keep finding myself pleasantly surprised.

The first part of the evening was spent queuing up Depeche Mode songs on Rhapsody. We are going to a Depeche Mode concert next week and John was trying to convince me they are the greatest band in the entire world. I never got into Depeche Mode but John is a HUGE fan. Here are a few interesting tidbits I discovered about Depeche Mode from talking to John and watching their videos last night:
_The lady from Thompson Twins is not one of their keyboardists. That is actually Martin Gore.
_Depeche Mode and Erasure are actually two different bands.
_Wearing white Levis doesn’t actually connote gayness as long as the man wearing the white Levis is from England.
After listening to Depeche Mode, Legendary Pink Dots, Muslimgauze, Rasputina, and The Dresden Dolls, we watched The ‘Burbs. I quite liked it if only for the presence of Henry Gibson. I wonder if he’s still writing poetry?

What a wonderful day!

Kin

I am all dressed and ready to go to my Aunt Helen’s house. Lisa is readying Bobo. I will bring that DDR game I bought a few months ago that didn’t work quite how I anticipated. I think my little cousins may have fun with it. All we need to do is stop and pick up some chocolate for Aunt Helen. We will get to her house around 3 and we will leave by 6. John is coming over this evening. Maybe we will watch another movie.

swell

Last night John came over and we watched Stardust Memories. It was an interesting movie. There is something about Woody Allen that reminds me of cat vomit. I don’t know what it is. Regardless, I liked the movie. Everything seems so beautiful in black and white.

This morning, Lisa and I are going to take a walk in the hopes of burning off some of the millions of calories that were consumed yesterday. The thought of putting on my jeans scares me. I wish I owned a kaftan.

Thanksgiving

I ate so much! It was wonderful! The turkey was incredible, as usual. Each year, my father outdoes the previous year’s turkey. The pineapple bread pudding, which I whipped up, tasted FABULOUS! My mom’s stuffing was just awesome. It was one heck of a feast. I just wish my cousin Lenka could have been with us.

Tomorrow we are visiting my Aunt Helen. I can hardly wait to see all my cousins, especially my cousins David and Dionne and their children Benji and Grace. The last time I saw them was at Easter and I can only imagine how much Benji and Grace have grown.

Good Bread, Good Meat

Good God, Let’s Eat!

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

My dad is going to deep fry a couple of turkeys. Mom and I will make pineapple bread pudding, stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, rolls, and peas. We decided to keep it simple this year. Everything should be ready by 3 or 4:00.
