Two New Dresses

Sometimes you need to splurge.  I went to Ross on Friday and bought two dresses.  They were cheap, very cheap.  But very beautiful.  At least they fit my taste.

JonesNY CKSweater Dress

The first is a Jones of New York.  It’s on their Web site for $120.00!  Subtract $100.00 and that’s about what I paid for it.  The other dress is from Calvin Klein.  It’s a black sweater dress with bell sleeves.  I found it on Overstock.com.  Even on Overstock, it’s selling for about twice what I paid.  I do love Ross

My Elvis Mug fills the ocean

I woke up Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn’t hurt. I poured my coffee into my Elvis mug… as I do every Sunday. It’s a silly quirk of mine. I must drink my Sunday coffee out of an Elvis mug. My plan for the day is to catch up on the work I should have done on Friday. And I will continue to do laundry, pick up clothes, vacuum, and clean as best as I can. I will try to stay away from the computer but that is nearly impossible for me. Last night I downloaded an e-Book, 10 Ways to Raise Your Vibration in Under 10 Minutes. The list went like this: Sing, Move Your Body(Dance/Exercise), Laugh, Meditate, Cleanse your Energy, Count Your Blessings, Journal, Assist Others, Forgive, and Love. I bet if a Scientologist wrote this list they would have included: get a massage and/or get a colonic. I think it’s a good list as is. Cleanse your energy seems a little hocus pocus but reading into it she explains it could be taking a shower, taking deep breaths, or praying. Those are all fine things. I need to shower and wash off all the dirt and crappy negative psychic energy clinging to me. There’s a part of me that would love to drive to Belmar and sit on a bench overlooking the ocean. But I have chores that need to be done. And going to Belmar becomes an all day affair. I think I want another cup of coffee. In my Elvis mug.

And even more Highlander

I am trying to remember how I pictured my future when I was in college. I know for sure I never thought I would be flopped on a sofa watching Highlander episodes on my 42-inch flat screen tv using a VOD device. If I remember correctly I wanted to be a TV producer or Naomi Wolf. That didn’t happen. Today I spent at networking events. Yeah, more than one. I am all networked out. Can I get my business off the ground? We shall see. I met an author. One of his books is called, Handbook to a Happier Life. I asked him what gives him the authority to write a book on happiness? As soon as the words were out of my mouth I thought of the time I asked a guy from NASA if we really did land on the moon. I should probably think before I speak. But the author ignored my cheekiness and said he was quite the drunk and druggie in the 70’s but at some point he had an epiphany, he asked God for help and every since he’s had luck and been happy. He said he lives in a huge house and drives an expensive car- has a beautiful wife and experiences wondrous abundance in his life. Wow. Really. Wow. I want to go out and buy all his books. I guess I should read them too. That’s the part I am not so good at.

More Highlander

I am now watching episode 3, first season of Highlander. This is the one with Dustin Nguyen, you know, Officer Harry Truman Ioki from 21 Jump Street. I may have to queue up some 21 Jump Street episodes when I get sick of Highlander. That’ll never happen. I am enjoying watching Highlander. It’s been 17 years since I last saw these episodes! The thing I am finding absolutely fascinating is how high everyone wore their jeans. Watching these shows is taking me back to my time spent at Rosemont College. My old roommate, Catherine the Red, and I watched Highlander, Forever Knight and Superman with absolute devotion! Highlander came on Saturday mornings. I sat desk at Mayfield and I tuned in weekly! Does that sentence make sense to anyone but a Rosemonster? Sitting desk meant you were paid to sit and watch the dorm entrance. Mayfield was one of the dorms. Any man entering the dorm had to be signed in and out. Those guys remaining after curfew were then fetched and taken down to the cots in the basement lest any of our girls be put in a sinful situation. In all of my four years, I only signed in TWO guys. One was a friend of my sister and the other was an actor I got to play lead in the play I wrote and produced. And they both left well before curfew. I did have a guy pick me up once. Yeah I went on a date. WAIT! I went on two dates. The one guy was from Audra’s Star Trek fan club and he was so ugly that I was embarrassed to even stand next to him. He took me to see Il postino. I now wonder if maybe, even in all his Quasimodo glory, he was my soul mate but I was too “lookist” to notice. Nah. The more I think about it the more I remember how he confided in me that he enjoyed exposing himself to strangers. Yeah, he was ugly and screwed up. DANG IT! My little cousins read my entries and I really shouldn’t have wrote that… now I feel ashamed AND DIRTY! What was I even writing about to begin with? Highlander and Catherine the Red. Yeah, I look back very fondly on that time. We used to squeal and laugh at the silliness of the episodes. She recently (probably over a year ago) found me through the Rosemont Directory, found my blog and read some of the old entries I wrote in which she featured. She was terribly upset. And she had the right. She searched for Rosemont and all my entries in which she was mentioned showed up one after the other and it really did seem like I was mocking her. But I wasn’t. She had reached out a few years back and I responded but she never answered and I couldn’t figure out why she would reach out if she had no interest in responding. And I blogged about it. I think if you look at the entries spanning many many months, what I wrote was very innocuous but taken one right after the other it seems crazy. I felt super bad then and I have to admit I’ve carried it with me. So I drank too much Chardonnay and am watching Highlander and I finally decided to put it out there. So be it. Like I said, I really do look back fondly on that time in my life. I miss it to some extent.

Alvin Stardust

I just discovered an old British glam rocker. His name is Alvin Stardust and I think I love him. You may want to consider checking him out on Youtube. You won’t be disappointed.

Look, I’ll make it easy for you. Here’s two videos:

So, c’mon! Admit it! You like him too! Right? Just a little bit?

Cold Calling across the universe

I’ve been cold calling this morning. Trying to see if I could find work designing Web sites for small businesses, optimizing their Web presence and helping them better understand Social Media. A lot of companies already have Web sites. And the small few who do not have Web sites apparently don’t pick up their phones when they ring. I am trying to figure how else to get the word out… to companies that don’t use the Web. You see, I just want to break free of “the man.” I want to work for myself. And I have absolutely no skills other than understanding the Internet and being able to design Web sites. So Web design/Internet Consulting seems to be my one option. But its something I love. I would love to help companies get online! I have to assume there is business out there. Don’t you think? I guess I just gotta keep calling.

Buddy Highlander

I am sitting here on my light blue, faux suede sofa and I am watching Highlander, season one, episode one on my Vunow and thinking about Russell Stover Internationale German Black Forest Truffle chocolates. I was given three pieces the other day and it was DELISH!!!

Today was the annual Community Day. There were tons of vendors. Lisa and I walked around with Bo. He gets so much attention! Every child and adult wanted to pet him! I met a woman who was hawking Tastefully Simple. The company is like Mary Kay or Avon or Tupperware. She almost has me convinced to become an associate! What do you think? Can you see me having parties and selling cake mixes? She told me she makes about $200.00 per party and she does 3 parties a week. She said they’ve been doing even better as a company since the recession because people like to splurge on little items like graham crackers and salsa. Color me curious, I may buy the starter kit.

Did you know that if Buddy Holly were alive, today he would have turned 73-years-old? Here’s a video of him singing Peggy Sue:

VuNow and Playon, making it work

A couple days ago I noticed a few more icons on my VuNow’s list of popular Web sites. They are PlayOn Hulu, PlayOn CBS, PlayOn CNN & PlayOn Netflix. Last night I finally had some time to play around with it. This is how I made Vunow work with PlayOn:

  1. Download and Install the MedialMall PlayOn Media Server.
  2. Purchase a MediaMall license and register it.
  3. Open PlayOn: Start > All Programs > PlayOn > PlayOn Settings
  4. Make sure your Hulu and Netflix usernames are entered in the User Accounts tab. (You MUST have accounts set up with Hulu and Netflix.)
  5. Turn on Vunow and go to the Popular Websites icon, then choose your poison, my favorite is PlayOn Hulu.
  6. THAT’S IT! At this point, just navigate the different folders. I went to PlayOn Hulu > TV Episodes > Folder R > and chose to watch the old TV show, Run for Your Life. You could also check out what’s on your Hulu queue. Of course you need to have episodes queued up. So far it appears to only show  the first 10 in queue. Regarding Netflix, it seems it only shows the movies that are in your Netflix queue, meaning you aren’t browsing their entire inventory. So make sure what you are looking for is in your Netflix queue. I would definitely suggest browsing the actual Hulu /Netflix Web sites with your computer first, figuring out what you want to watch and then just using VuNow to find it. VuNow is not easy to browse.

I am absolutely LOVING this new functionality.  I finally have Video on Demand!!  My hope is the next thing VuNow works on is getting connection with Rhapsody! How awesome would that be? I’d love it!

Back and 35

I’m still here.  I got busy with real life.  You know how that is.  So I turned another year older and continue to get older with every day that passes.  My father took me to Great Adventure on my birthday.  We rode the El Toro roller coaster, watched a dolphin show and laughed at the Wiggles.  I had an awesome time!

That evening, Pookie Bear took me to my favorite Italian restaurant where I ordered Melanzana Rollatini.  So very yummy.  I also got a little tiny chocolate cake with a candle!  The celebration did not stop that day.  Two days later, Audra and Steve took me to Casablanca, a Morroccan restaurant to eat with our hands and watch a male belly dancer perform!   Omar danced beautifully and he seemed a cross between Rudolf Valentino and General Zod.  A good combination if you ask me!  On Sunday, Lisa took me to Bushkill Falls where we hiked the red trail. With all the wooden bridges and trees, I felt like a lost boy in Peter Pan. Yeah, it was fun! I had a great birthday!
