Cold Calling across the universe

I’ve been cold calling this morning. Trying to see if I could find work designing Web sites for small businesses, optimizing their Web presence and helping them better understand Social Media. A lot of companies already have Web sites. And the small few who do not have Web sites apparently don’t pick up their phones when they ring. I am trying to figure how else to get the word out… to companies that don’t use the Web. You see, I just want to break free of “the man.” I want to work for myself. And I have absolutely no skills other than understanding the Internet and being able to design Web sites. So Web design/Internet Consulting seems to be my one option. But its something I love. I would love to help companies get online! I have to assume there is business out there. Don’t you think? I guess I just gotta keep calling.

Hi Donna! The experience I’ve had finding financial resources showed me it was often a numbers game. Sooner or later I would hit something, sometimes a “hit” would feed on itself and I’d seem to be on a roll. I worked as a political canvaser going door to door asking for contributions. Of course some neighborhoods were better than others. Maybe some personal appearances at places of business. Certainly more time consuming but more impact I would think. Professional associations?

It took me awhile to get Twitter and Facebook, etc… and then one day it hit me– there is nothing to get. Just as Peggy Lee sang, “Is that all there is?” Uh, yeah. And now I can be a consultant!!!!!

Gerald– good points– I think I will be making some personal appearances. I just wish they could be on a float. 🙂
