I took my motorcycle license learning permit last week… and passed. Yeah, I was pretty incredulous too. I didn’t study other than on the ride over. Over the weekend I signed up for safety/driving lessons at the local Harley shop. The classes start in April. Last night Lisa asked me to meet her at the local Harley shop because they were having a rally for women. It was called a Garage Party. Images of barrels full of flames, motorcycles, people engaged in illicit behavior ran through my mind… mainly because that’s how Lisa described it to me. She even said she felt very strongly there would be a big man there named Tiny. I arrived at the showroom a little late. I asked about the rally and the salesman showed me to a backroom where there was a seminar going on. Lisa and Laura were sitting in the back guarding the cooler of beer they brought with them. Turns out hors devours were provided along with mini-bottles of water. The room was full of women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Some could have been even older than that. The older women had their hair shingled in the back and they wore vests full of motorcycle patches. But most of the women were newbies. I can’t quite say what I learned from the evening other than never cut my hair too short.

I will say I was pretty surprised at the price of motorcycles. For some odd reason I thought they would be really expensive like 25K or more. Most were around 5-10K which struck me as being rather affordable. I have no intention of buying a motorcycle. I just want the experience of learning to ride one.
