I am not one to give advice. I love those self-help gurus but I could never imagine telling people how to live a perfect life.
But with that said, I do have a couple pearls of wisdom I try to share with the young people.
1. Save your money. Have a nest egg. Live within your means. Spend wisely.
2. If you have the means and ability, do not put off things that you could do today.
You see, I only came upon #2 recently. It was formed because I keep kicking myself that I didn’t get new flooring in my house and do a couple other home repairs last year when I was raking in the dough. And even though I didn’t spend that money for other things, I just put it in my bank account, I do not feel like I can spend it now. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
Live and learn.
Anyone have any pearls of wisdom they’d like to share in the comments?

Awaken the Giant Within!
The Four Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz’s code for life
agreement 1
Be impeccable with your word – Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
agreement 2
Don’t take anything personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.
agreement 3
Don’t make assumptions – Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
agreement 4
Always do your best – Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
I can agree with those! I especially like #2 Don’t Take Anything Personally. That is something I try to do but it is against my nature.
My dad told me that according to EST, the whole point of life is just trying to survive. And I am finding that I really agree with that as well. I am doing what I can to survive and sometimes I make mistakes and sometimes I don’t make the right decisions but I am doing what I can to survive.
I have the same problem with #2. Thanks for the tip! I just checked it out on Amazon. I think I will pick up a copy!
Here’s my words of wisdom BTW. I tell this one to my kid all the time. It’s kind of like #4 above…
“Do or do not. There is no try.”
– Yoda
Of course, there’s that classic book called “The Seven Habits Of Effective People”. It’s chock full of common sense homilies, as is “Everything I Need to Know I Learned In Kindergarten”.
The problem isn’t that people are ignorant. No, they know full well what works and what doesn’t work, and freely choose the wrong path (example: most people can discern healthy from unhealthy foods, and most people knowingly consume the latter).
