David Letterman has me angry. He told an off-joke on his show the other day. Something about Sarah Palin and her daughter’s visit to NYC and how her daughter got knocked up by a baseball player. Big brouhaha ensued, quite rightly in my opinion. And David Letterman FINALLY does the right thing and apologizes, sorta:

It was “a coarse joke,” “a bad joke,” Letterman told viewers. “But I never thought it was (about) anybody other than the older daughter, and before the show, I checked to make sure, in fact, that she is of legal age, 18.”

Let’s totally take Palin and her politics out of this, okay? It’s a cruel joke and it shouldn’t have been told whether is was about the younger OR OLDER daughter. This is why I am angry. It doesn’t matter whether the girl is 18-years-old, 15-years-old or 25-years-old. Bristol Palin never sought out celebrity. What she has she got by default. Leave her alone.

And what really gets me angry is I realize this whole “news story” is stupid. I hate that I allowed myself to get caught up in it. But it hits me harder than most fluff stories because I was teased as a child and I know how much it hurts. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have some man serving you up on a plate for the entire country to laugh at. Whore! HAHAHA! Well, Karma’s a bitch and I hope David Letterman gets his.

Arrghh! Don’t get me started on this. It doesn’t matter whether the girl is 14, 18, or any age! Children have always been off limits. But now it seems so long as it directed towards Palin, it’s okay. Letterman would have NEVER told a joke like about Obama’s kids.

Don Imus was FIRED for telling a joke just as odious
about a team of female basketball players. Obviously there is a double standard…and here’s just another
    blatant example of media bias.

    Greta Van Sustern says:

“Did you know this? in most jurisdictions someone (Letterman) accusing an unmarried person (Willow Palin, age 14) of being unchaste (knocked up by A-Rod) is libel per se?”

“That means that the mere statement is presumed to cause damage to the person…in other words, utter the unchaste words and you better open your wallet since it is libel per se. Claiming now it was a joke is not a defense…plus, in this case, I bet the joke was vetted by several layers of writers at CBS which means CBS could have problems.”

Does David Letterman really have the power to influence the media (by example of what not-to-do)? The whole thing is much ado about nothing. If this was on HBO (as opposed to on the mainstream networks), would anyone even care? Doubtful.

Don’t worry about Letterman. The guy has been on the edge since he didn’t get the “Tonight Show” gig after Carson left.

I would never have heard the joke except for all the news coverage. And I thought it was in very bad taste. I haven’t heard anyone make the argument on behalf of the baseball player, A-Rod? I don’t follow baseball, but I did hear that he and his wife divorced because of infidelity. Does he have illegitimate children or something? Either way, is it offensive to him too?

It’s clearly slanderous to say that a grown man is
having sex with a 14 year old girl. The reason A-Rod
isn’t pressing the issue could be: a. he’s
a Democrat, and doesn’t care if Palin’s daughter gets
insulted b. he’s so rich that he doesn’t need to sue
anyone or c. his reputation as a horn dog is well-documented so why bring more of that sort of attention
    to himself?

The entertainment world is a pox upon America.
