Aha!

Getting myself ready for the Violent Femmes concert by queuing up some of their songs on Rhapsody, I clicked on a link for a related artist, Jonathan Richman. I never heard of him before but I am finding that I really like his music. It is similar to the Femmes.

Here’s a couple videos of him on Youtube:

In a slightly different vein (but still entertainment-related)…

Glenn Ford died yesterday. Here’s some rather amusing dialogue between Glenn Ford and Stella Stevens from the 1964 movie “Advance To The Rear”:

Stella: Well aren’t you something? First you break into my cabin with that disgusting display of animal lust. Then you accuse me of being a spy. And now all of a sudden, I’m the only girl in the world for you.

Glenn: Well, that’s the way it goes sometimes.

If you’ve ever seen “There’s Something About Mary,” then you’ve seen Jonathan Richman before, and heard his music. And Michael speaks truth about “Roadrunner.” One of the greatest songs ever. And the only song I know that begins with the count of “1-2-3-4-5-6.” Who in the heck counts to six to start a song? Four? Definitely. Eight? Sometimes. But six? Clearly, Jonathan Richman sings to a different beat.

P.S. – How were the Violent Femmes? I saw them in ’83 at a little dive in Columbia, Missouri, before they had their minute of fame.
