Verbosity

My college reunion is coming up and I decided to call my old roommate. She had contacted me last summer via email. I think she wanted to get together with me before the reunion but she didn’t seem to possess the courage to call me. I gave her my phone number and instead of calling me, she gave me her number. Later I emailed her and asked to meet her at the yearly Oktoberfest and she didn’t get back to me until months later with the silly excuse that she doesn’t often check her email. I threw my arms up in exasperation and called it quits. (I know I could have called her but she was the one that contacted me! I was quite happy having her as a distant memory)

At any rate, I picked up the phone and dialed her number.

Man: Hullah
Donna: Hello, is Catherine there?
Man: No
[uncomfortable silence]
Donna: Oh, well, this is her old college roommate and I was hoping to speak to her.
[uncomfortable silence]
Donna: When would be a better time for me to reach her?
Man: 5
Donna: I don’t know if I will be free at 5
[uncomfortable silence]
Donna: Would you be able to give her a message?
Man: Yeah
Donna: Tell her Donna from Rosemont called, I’ll call her back some other time
[uncomfortable silence]
Donna: Are you her husband?
Man: yeah
Donna: I don’t think we’ve ever met…
Man: No
Donna: Well, it’s been absolutely delightful talking to you, please give Catherine my message
[uncomfortable silence]
Donna: Goodbye

I am happy she did so well for herself.
