Turn it up, Sonny!

I just had a disturbing vision. On Saturday, at the Fair at the Old Age Home where Erin works, there was a DJ playing Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra songs. Erin and I tried to get him to play Groove is in the Heart but he refused.
“Girls, this isn’t the audience for Groove is in the Heart.”
He was right. The old folks were enjoying the Frank Sinatra tribute. They rocked to the beat of ole Blue Eyes. Can you imagine what Old Folks’ Homes will be like in 30-40 years? Is it possible that the old timers will be listening to the Sex Pistols? How surreal!

I have this image of the look of puzzlement and confusion on the faces of the residents if you had gotten the DJ to play “Groove Is In The Heart” sounding anything close to the Dee-Lite version.

I don’t listen to Frank Sinatra on anything like a regular basis, but I think people will still be listening to his recordings a century from now, just like they’ll still be listening to Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Holliday.

I can see it now…..Play Freddie Mercury and Queen for me, sonny. No? How about some Roy Orbison or Elvis? Never mind! I’ll just sit here in the corner gumming stale crackers.
