Watched the very end of Sons and Lovers last night on TV. Dean Stockwell was so cute and tortured back then and he made such great movies: Compulsion, Long Day’s Journey into Night, Rapture… then he grew his hair long and went into a weird hippy phase. It probably would have been best if he crashed his Porsche, although I am sure he wouldn’t agree. There is no denying that it worked well for James Dean. If things went differently, it could have been James Dean on Quantum Leap and a poster of Dean Stockwell on the bedroom walls of 15 year-old girls everywhere.
