So what do you think the background is on this photo? Why was Micky wearing blush? He doesn’t seem too happy about getting his picture taken. Who could blame him? I am guessing the photographer ran away before Micky could get him. Why would someone take a picture like this? I guess the bigger question is why would I save it on my hard drive and actually post it? I found it years ago slumming around Web pages devoted to the Monkees. (I don’t do that anymore, at least on Wednesdays) It was certainly the strangest photo of any Monkee that I ever happened upon. And now I share it with all of you! Enjoy! 🙂

I’m not shocked because I seem to remember the Monkees dressing in drag in more than one episode of their show. Once Micky had to dress up like a girl because Davy’s date needed a chaperone, and they did a fairytale episode where they might have been all dressed as girls at some point.
Gah!
The photo is dated 09 Feb 1970. That’s after the show. I am guessing maybe Micky was doing a play like Hair. I think he looks more like a crazy hippy than an woman. But that’s just me.
Do you remember the episode in which Davy dressed as a girl because in order to enter a band contest they needed a “mixed” band? Jerry Blavat, The Geater with the Heater, the Boss with the Hot Sauce who was emceeing the contest FELL IN LOVE WITH DAVY and he pursued Davy and Mike kept saying, Play along! It was a hysterical episode, as I remember.
Hair? Woman? Hippie? I was thinking he was doing his best to impersonate a 1980s Joan Collins… lol
Er….well….I think Micky may have been in a koolaid commercial or two in 69-70….somewhere or other online I think I read that the picture may have to do with that. It was near the end of things for him/them. But yes, they all were not averse to dressing female, I mean even Mike did, in the show – he dressed as a princess for an episode!
