Old School

Rob’s band, Old School, performed last night. They were FANTABULOUS! And I don’t say that because I am seeing the bassist/leader. Well, maybe just a little.

Rob won’t let me post the footage I recorded so instead I decided to just link to YouTube videos of the original songs.

The second song they performed was my favorite, Slade’s Run Run Away. This is the only song of theirs that Quiet Riot didn’t steal, I mean cover. Rob sang it and it was just great! Unfortunately, Rob didn’t make silly faces in the middle of the song like Noddy Holder did in the video below.

Other related videos that recall a Renaissance Faire feel are: The Safety Dance – Men Without Hats and Karma Chameleon – Culture Club. I don’t think Rob will ever cover these songs, but stranger things have happened.

The first song performed was not Rob’s favorite, in fact he scoffed when the drummer requested they play it. Apparently Robert is not a Police fan. The song in question is: So Lonely:

I don’t know why Rob hates this song since he loves Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons. I am going to admit something that I have never verbalized before in my entire life. I have a silent crush on Stewart Copeland. To me, he will always be the professor who doesn’t want to stand so close to me. There, admitting that little secret makes me feel so much better.

The next song was supposed to be Rainbow’s Since You Been Gone, which most of you know as one of my favorite songs EVER. Rob even promised to don aviator glasses as an homage to Graham Bonnet. Unfortunately they decided at the last minute to scrap the song because it didn’t sound perfect. Darn it! Instead they sang Foreigner’s Hot Blooded.

The last song was sung by the keyboardist who looks like Micky Dolenz. I have no remembrance of the song title or the band’s name. Oops. Sorry. If only he sang like Micky, maybe then I would remember the song.

PS
Here’s the video to Slade’s Cum on Feel the Noize:

I think the only reason I really like this song is because of my sister Lisa. When she was a freshman at Rosemont, she got up and lip synced to this song with a bunch of her friends at the annual Talent Show. I remember giving her such a hard time. “Why is your face painted like Gene Simmons?! Kiss didn’t sing this song! And this is a talent show! There’s no talent in lip syncing!” She had the last laugh– her group won first prize and $500.00! Unfortunately, one of the girls stole the money. The girl who stole the money eventually ended up in jail for hiring a hit man. Ahhh, innocent Rosemont College, the good ole days!

    Hello,

I’m doing background research on Rosemont College (PA) and noticed your comment about the student, stolen money, and the hit man.

Please let me know if you’re willing to provide any of the details to that -or any other (similar) that may have taken place at Rosemont College.

    Thanks,
    Michael
