Legs in the stirrups, pee in a cup

“You will need to make an appointment.”
“I’d prefer not”
“Miss, you haven’t been to see the doctor since December 2006.”
“See! I was just there!”
“Miss, the doctor can see you on Friday at 9:15.”
“Fine, fine, fine– you win.”

I am going to the doctor. I don’t want to go. Honestly, I am panicking here. I really don’t want to go. It’s not the doctor part that freaks me out– it’s the exposure. I hate being examined, I hate being naked, I hate fearing that I may involuntarily fart or something.

I really need to get ready. OK– I can do it. Thnk good, happy, nice thoughts…. Charles Bronson and ice cream, Charles Bronson and ice cream, Charles Bronson and ice cream.

How do they do it?

Okay, I admit it! I’ve been reading craft/design blogs. The pictures are what draw me in. I love the crispness of the images and the bright colors! I’m absolutely taken by the lifestyle these crafty bloggers lead. I can’t help it but I’ve been living vicariously through them. They seem to somehow make a pretty damn good living selling crocheted stuffed animals, clothespin dolls, unstructured fabric purses and embroidered dish towels. I can’t believe there are people out there who can actually justify the purchase of this crap but apparently there are tons and these bloggers are just raking in the dough. How else can you explain how they can spend their days baking and decorating cupcakes or photographing their absolutely gorgeous children/dogs/cats/husbands. Their houses are lovely and somehow I never spy crumbs or empty Yuengling bottles in any of the shots. I just wonder how they do it. I am envious.

Turner around

TCM is changing their programming line up to honor Charlton Heston. How do I know this? They sent me an email. They’re nice that way. The problem is– I much prefer the movies they are deleting!

It’s not my favorite sampling of Heston. Had they consulted me, I would have chosen:

The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) The dramatic lives of trapeze artists, a clown, and an elephant trainer against a background of a circus spectacle. Charlie portrays the circus manager.
Diamond Head (1963) Charlie portrays a Rich Hawaiian pineapple grower who also happens to be quite a bigot. How dare his sister Yvette Mimieux hook up with “Hawaiian” James Darren!
Planet of the Apes (1968) You know the saying, “Human see, human do.”
Soylent Green (1973) It’s people!

I really think TCM should hire me.

Tonight!

I gave a speech this evening. Yeah, it amazes me too that I am asked to talk about stuff– like digital simulation prototype stuff. If anything, I realize it doesn’t take much to be considered an expert. As long as you’re willing to speak in front of a group and can pussyfoot around certain topics (like the details) you’re good to go, Mr/Ms Expert!

This evening I updated Donnaville and Rob’s two Web pages to WordPress 2.5. I was overjoyed that the update didn’t blow out any of the themes. There’s a new feature which allows you to embed a image gallery into a post. I can’t seem to get it to work. The images come in at full size and not as thumbnails. I suppose eventually I’ll find the answer in the support forums.

This evening I’ve been watching Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. I am finding it oddly entertaining. I was really shocked to see the actress Anne-Marie Johnson playing a grandmother. She was one of my favorite characters on one of my favorite 80’s sitcoms. Do you remember Double Trouble? It was on TV around 1984? It starred Peg Bundy’s twin sisters as… twin sisters. Anne-Marie was Allison’s friend at design school who was always giving her advice that started, “Like my Momma ALWAYS say…” Yeah, I think she was supposed to be Caribbean. Looking back now her character seems a little cartoonish. Later she went on to star as Raj’s wife in the What’s Happening sequel, What’s Happening Now? I lost track of her after that series. It’s strange to see her again. I would love to see Jonathan Schmock and James Vallely again– they were also on Double Trouble. They played these zany guys who were always doing zany things with Jean and Allison. Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I have gone on this long about Double Trouble. I worry about myself sometimes.

All is going well

Quaker Oats sent me a coupon for $4.50! That really knocked my socks off!

Over the weekend, Rob and I got some DVDs at Best Buy. Eagle Vs Shark and Johnny Suede. Eagle Vs Shark was really cute and quirky and starred the one guy from Flight of the Conchords. Johnny Suede is a movie I have been wanting to see ever since I was in High School. I just never got around to it. Rob brought it over to me in Best Buy, “Check out who’s in this movie!”
“Oh Rob! You know I am not a Brad Pitt fan.”
“Just look!”
“Oh!!!!!! It’s Nick Cave!”
Rob didn’t even ask if we should get it, he just immediately put it in the buy stack. We watched it last night and it was just plain weird. When it ended, we both said in unison, “I don’t get it.” The one thing I am sure of is Catherine Keener later got a nose job because she had a “hook” in Johnny Suede.

The other day I was grumbling about my bank Wachovia (aka Wa-Caca). Over the last few days, I have been making mucho phone calls to CSchwab and I gotta tell you, so far, I am really impressed. They even have nice, helpful people working late Sunday night! Hats off to CSchwab!

My mind has really been overwhelmed with getting my finances together. So much so that I have noticed my focus on keeping my clothes hanging up and folded has lapsed a bit. That seems rather typical. The good news is that my finances should be totally together by the end of this week. Okay, maybe not totally together but in a better state than they were. I already feel a sense of accomplishment. I just wish it could come together faster. I hate that there are so many forms that need signing and stuff that needs activating. Very soon it will all be over. Very soon I will finally be in a state where I can breath easier. It’s funny how long I have allowed myself to cringe over something that has been very simple to fix. I am close– I am almost there!

You must be joking!

Remember how I said I had a 100.00 gift certificate at Amazon? And I was trying to figure a way to use it in an extremely frivolous way? I just spent 30.00 of it for Quicken’s Willmaker Plus 2008 Edition: Estate Planning Essentials (Book with CD-ROM). I know, I am so boring and practical. It disgusts me too.

I guess it was last week when I realized that I need to get a will and possibly a living trust set up. I have no plans on exiting early, it just seems that I really should protect my family just in case. The thing is, I realize I should probably consult a lawyer rather than do it on my own using a stupid software package. My problem is the lack of trust I have for lawyers and also that I hate parting with money. We shall see if I can in fact do it on my own. If not, I will consult a lawyer.

Unmotivated

I didn’t want to get out of bed today. Maybe it’s the rainy weather. There’s something about rain that makes me want to snuggle deeper into my warm bed. I guess it makes sense— stand on the train platform in the rain or stay in bed? Hmmmm, that’s a tough one! As the minutes passed by, my goals changed. If you get up now, you can take a nice long shower. Now you can take a real quick shower. Now you can wash your hair in the sink. Now you can put you hair in a bun and hope people don’t know you didn’t wash it this morning. It’s true, I am one of those people who MUST wash their hair everyday. It’s not a weird compulsion on my part. My hair just looks plain bad if I don’t wash it. I attribute it to my Italian side. I wish there was something I could do so I didn’t have to wash it every day. It seems like such a huge waste of water.

As it is, I am dressed and ready to leave. The last day of the week. Time to go.

Wa-Caca

I need to calm down. I am feeling great anger towards my bank, Wachovia. Going forward, I willl refer to them as Wa-Caca. Wa-Caca closes at 3:00 everyday except Friday. Friday it’s open a little later. That’s because they know that people who work until 5:00 like to go out and do things on Fridays. They want their hours to be as unfriendly to their customers as possible. On my lunch hour, I went to my local Wa-Caca branch. The man who said he would help me was unable to because his system was down. He promised to call me when it came back up. He didn’t. Finally, I decided to call Wa-Caca on the phone and get help that way. HA! I asked questions about their Crown Banking account and I could tell the girl was reading from the same pamphlet that I had in front of me. She transferred me to some man who insisted upon calling me Ma’am. He asked me why I would even bother with the Crown Banking account— sure it wouldn’t charge me a hundred dollars annual fee and I would get free atm withdrawls but otherwise— it’s the same. I finally just hung up. Then I remembered I had forgotten to setup my account so I could download transactions with Microsoft Money. I called back and was told it was 10.00 a month for that service.

I am at the point where I want to withdrawl all my money and go elsewhere.

Anyone know of a good bank?
