Goin’ up
My mouth isn’t in tremendous pain. The dentist cleaned my teeth and scraped away the plaque or tartar or whatever it is. He took some x-rays and told me I have another cavity and I will have to visit him again next week for him to drill. I can’t wait until this is over. I am beginning to remember why I let 5 years lapse between visits.
It’s been a trying day and I can’t wait to go to sleep.
Zoobies
I had such a nice weekend! Getting those chairs stained really gave me a sense of accomplishment. I checked on them this morning and the wood is exactly the color we wanted. Hooray! This afternoon I am visiting the dentist once again. After filling that molar the other week, he said to me, “You really need to come back and see me again!” I hate to think of what he is going to do. The time before last, I remember my teeth hurting for days from all the scraping and poking and prodding.
One of the girls who graduated with me from Rosemont is now a Gynecologist. You couldn’t pay me enough money to do that job. Same goes with dentistry. Last week as he drilled, spittle and chunks of teeth flew from my mouth hitting him in the face and staining his glasses. It was my spit and tooth bits and I was DISGUSTED! Yuck!
dirk’s days
Does anyone have an mp3 of Beautful Love by The Jeremy Days? It may also be listed under Dirk Darmstaedter. I’ve been searching for it for years and I have finally decided to ask for help. If you have it, send it over to me! PLEASE! I really want to hear it.
I’m a feelin’ good!
After having stained those chairs, I was covered in brown goop. Before leaving for my parents’ house, I tried to get it off but I gave up. It seemed like the only way to remove it would be to sacrifice a couple layers of skin. At home, my mom made a very lovely dinner and afterward she brought out an ice cream cake to celebrate Lisa’s birthday a few days early. We went for a walk after dinner and then Lisa and I went home to the donnavilla. Instead of watching Voodoo Moon as I had planned, I took a bath! Soaking worked wonders because the brown goop came off without any issue at all. I figure SciFi will run Voodoo Moon over and over again so I can catch it later. Lisa watched a little bit of it and said, “Yeah this looks like a winner!”
“Is it a B movie?”
“Oh, it is much worse than a B movie, it’s Canadian!”
Lisa and I are such suckers for Canadian productions.
Lot goin’ on
TALK ABOUT PRODUCTIVE!!! Lisa and I put together the 4 Adirondack chairs and stained them. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they snapped together. Probably took about 10 minutes per chair. The staining was another matter. There are a lot of drips but what can you do? We did our best. I love the way they look so far (despite the drips). I hope they don’t lighten but stay dark. We shall see. The next thing we need to do is get some cushions for them and we are done.
Audra and Steve dropped by and they showed us the pictures from the wedding. The pictures looked great! I can’t wait to see the DVD. They’ll bring it next week to the BBQ Lisa and I are having.
Unfinished Fever
Yesterday, Lisa and I stopped at Michael’s Craft Store to buy a frame and mat for our signed Lestat poster. While there, we noticed they had unfinished wooden Adirondack chairs for $25.00! They are normally $50.00. Lisa told me that this is exactly what we want. It’s better to do wood than plastic and we can choose the color we want. So I bought 4 chairs. Then we went to Home Depot and we bought a dark brown stain, 2 paintbrushes, and 1 pack of sandpaper ($27.00 + $3.00 + $3.00). Lisa assured me we can achieve a Moroccan feel by adding red pillows to the chairs. I think when all is said and done we will have spent about the same amount of money as we would have had we just bought the chairs already finished, but this is going to be fun.

Don Solo
I made it to my reunion on time! Despite knowing that the 5-year reunion was poorly attended, I still decided to go to the 10-year reunion. It wasn’t much of a surprise to find out that the 10-year was attended by the same 9 girls. We talked about how disappointing it is that more of our schoolmates don’t want to be more involved. The thing is, the girls that did attend all stay in touch and so it is easy for them knowing they’ll see their friends. I can’t tell you how difficult it was for me to get out of the car and walk to Cardinal Hall where the dinner was held. I wasn’t sure if I would be the only one from my class. Wandering around, I was the only single person on the grounds. It was difficult but I forced myself. And it is a good thing because once inside, I met up with my class and we had a great time! One of the main reasons more girls don’t attend, I have to assume, is they are unable to force themselves to attend the reunion solo. I refuse to let the lack of a man in my life hold me back from attending functions and doing things I want to do.
One of the girls I talked with told me that she was supposed to get married last week but her mother was diagnosed with cancer last summer so she moved the wedding to October. Her mother died in December. Puts things into perspective for me. My room is messy. I am struggling to learn the ropes at my job. I date men who are jerks. BUT AT LEAST I STILL HAVE MY PARENTS!
Not too bad, really
Yesterday Lisa and I went to the Rosemont Happy Hour at Kelly’s. Except we missed it. We arrived after everyone had left. Lisa explained to me that Happy Hour is typically from 5-7. We got there well after 7. Trying to make the best of the situation I suggested we go to Gullifty’s for dinner. They sat us on their outside patio. We ordered two Yuenglings and as we took the first sip, it began to rain. The waitress cashed us out and told us we could go inside for a table. With our beers in hand we went inside only to be told they couldn’t seat us because they had no room. I turned to Lisa and said, “This isn’t our night, let’s go home.”
Lisa refused, “No! We are all dolled up and there is no way in heck I am going home! Let’s go into Philly.”
We drove to Philly in the rain. Ludwig’s Garten wasn’t terribly crowded and we got seats at the bar. We ordered some food and some beer and everything started to feel right. That is until we paid the bill and the rain increased ten fold.
“Okay, let’s just order another round of drinks and wait out the rain.”
An hour and a half later, the rain showed no signs of slowing. Thunder started rumbling and Lisa and I knew we had to get home to little Bo. Maybe I was just in denial but I really didn’t think we would get as wet as we did running through the streets of Philly. By the time we reached my Chevy Caprice Classic (1994, 26 gallon gas tank, 15 miles to the gallon) we were absolutely drenched. It looked like we had just emerged from a pool, completely clothed. We drove home through flooded roads. Luckily, the little Bo was okay when we finally arrived. He is such a survivor!
This evening is the Gala Reunion Cocktail Party and Dinner at Rosemont. I am all dressed up in my very pretty black cocktail dress that I bought at TJMaxx for some ridiculously low price. It should be a fun evening. I don’t even mind that I am going solo. All will be good!
modern guy
Last night I went out and had drinks with a man who knew how to behave. He was a little weird but I liked him and would definitely consider meeting him again. When I was getting ready, I noticed my ankles were swollen. How did that happen? Thankfully, I don’t think he noticed that I was in possession of a lovely set of kankles. I went to bed with my feet elevated on pillows and they seem okay this morning.
On the train ride home, I was wondering about costumes for concerts and plays. Is there only 1 costume that the actor/singer must wear every night of their performance or do they have multiple versions of 1 costume. Do the costumes get washed after every performance? They must because, boy, do performers sweat. And some of those costumes don’t look like the type of thing you can just throw in the ole Whirlpool. Back in December I saw Erasure perform and the lead singer really sweat up a storm. I can’t imagine what they did to that blazer he wore. Dry cleaning is just not going to get the smell of sweat out of it.
The other day, Lisa asked me about Erin’s BBQ.
“Did everyone like your Midori cupcakes?”
“Yeah, they went quickly…”
And then at the same time, Lisa said,”So they went ape shit over the cupcakes” as I said, “They went bananas over the cupcakes.”
Lisa laughed and said, “Isn’t it funny that you said bananas and I said ape shit? They are pretty much the same thing, aren’t they?”
I thought that was silly, I never thought of it in that way.
