A Duck

The career fair was a bust as I expected. I arrived at 3:30 and most of the booths were empty. I spoke to a fellow from AFLAC. I don’t know, maybe I can sell insurance.

After the career fair I went to the Toshiba certified repair center. The fellow took a look at my laptop and said, “Hmmmmm, I’d have to say it’s the back-light.” No sh*t, Sherlock. He told me he wouldn’t get the part in until middle of next week. The good news is that he can have it up and running in 15 minutes and I can wait while he fixes it. I was really worried I would be without a computer for a week. I don’t think I could handle that. No sirree, Bob.

3am

The back-light on my laptop went kaput. It’s been on the fritz for quite awhile but today it finally went out for good. I have a monitor hooked up to it so I am able to get my email and back up the computer before I take it to the Toshiba Certified Repair Center. My plan is to drop it off so they can diagnose the issue and order the bulb. I will take it home while the part is shipped and next week I will give my little HAL to them for repair. It shouldn’t take more than an hour to fix so hopefully I will get it back within a week.

This afternoon there is a Career Fair at the local hotel. I am all dressed for it. I can’t imagine there is anything there for me but I think it’s good to get out of the house and maybe I will meet people.

Tonight is DeLorenzo Pizza night. I feel rather ambivalent. Usually I am charged up for it. The last time I was there, the morning after I awoke with terrible vertigo. I know it’s not related.

Last night I watched Ingmar Bergman’s Hour of the Wolf. I have been wanting to see this movie for years and years. On vacation over a decade ago, I saw a movie poster for it hanging on the wall of a store or restaurant. The poster haunted me. I knew I had to see this movie but I just never did. Last night, I put the DVD into my player and WOW! It was incredible. It’s about the wife of an artist. They live together on a deserted island. The artist is coming unhinged and he starts to hallucinate. His wife also begins to see his visions and tries to protect him but… I won’t write anymore. You will have to see it yourself.

Chored out

I got everything but the bank accomplished. Apparently they close at 4:00. Darnit. I am a little tiffed at Vonage. They shipped me the wrong router and when I reported it, I was told I must send it back. Vonage doesn’t send return labels with postage paid so I had to go to the Post Office with the package and get it weighed and stamped. Vonage credited my account 7.00. The package cost 6.75 to mail! What a pain in my butt and my gas and time weren’t even covered. Grrrrrrr

Chores

I MUST do the following:

1. Supermarket:
– Dannon Activa Yogurt
– Tide
– Water
– Grapefruit Juice

2. Post Office
– Mail that darn incorrectly sent Vonage router

3. Bank
– Deposit two checks (Why is this so difficult to do?)

Whoa!

Holy Cow! I uploaded my resume to CareerBuilder. Upon hitting submit, I decided to make a cup of oolong tea. As the water began boiling, I got a call from a recruiter who saw my resume.

Car Show

I’m back from the Dress for Success workshop. Did you know how important it is to keep your hair brushed and always wear clean clothes that don’t smell? It’s true! Dirty fingernails are not a “do.” Who would have ever imagined?

Lisa and I are meeting Daddy and together we’re going to the Philadelphia Car Show. Should be fun. Lisa and Dad went last year and had a blast.

A Man and a Woman (1966)

Un Homme et Une Femme

French new-wave filmmaker Claude Lelouch weighs in with a jumpy, impressionistic take on the expectations of romance. Starring Anouk Aimée as a widowed “script girl” and Jean-Louis Trintignant as a racer who lost his wife to suicide, the film is a study of moments between the time the two characters meet and the point at which they begin to read each other intuitively. Très cool!

Skirt Suit

Today’s career workshop is Dressing for Success. I wonder if it’s a bad idea to wear denim? I really just want to sleep after yesterday. My aunt really pooped me out! I can’t sleep; I must do the workshop and I must commence my job hunt. Enough of this tinkering with the resume and putzing around.

Geraint Wyn Davies was not in last night’s episode of 24. A new character was introduced and then killed off. He looked an awful like Frank Langella. I loved Frank’s turn as Dracula back in 1979. I should check to see if it’s on Netflix.

MUST LEAVE NOW OR ELSE I WILL BE LATE!!!
