Looking Back at All the Good Things

It dawned on me today that I have spent an inordinate amount of time fixating on what I want to accomplish this upcoming year and what I didn’t accomplish last year. Instead of feeling buoyed over the possibility of the upcoming year, I felt like a huge loser. Rather than wallow in feelings of crapitude, I decided to sit down and come up with my accomplishments from last year. What made me proud? What made me happy? What delighted me? And so here it is… my list of accomplishments.

Looking back on all the good things of 2011

I wrote and published a book!

I was chosen to speak at 3 different Chamber of Commerces and countless other organizations and associations

I was hired by a large organization to work with their executive team!

I worked with a Business Consultant who really helped me.

Work keeps coming my way without too much effort on my part. I love what I do.

One of the groups I spoke to gave me an Entertainment Coupon book as payment along with Fifty Trillion Dollars from the Federal Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe

Rockin’ Ron Cade, my favorite DJ (Big Jim Sykes is my second) gave me FREE tickets to his Rockin’ Ron Cade’s Elvis and Friends Concert in February. Not only did I see a great Elvis Stylist, Sammy J, I also got a free meal and a SCARF!

I went to the Philly Car Show with my dad and Lisa. We had a great time checking out cars.

I had a great time with my family at DeLorenzo’s pizza for my mother’s last birthday. John came out with candles on the pie and everyone sang Happy Birthday. I am not 100% sure but I think that was the last time we went out as a family before my dad died and it was such a wonderful, wonderful evening.

I became a GODMOTHER to little Fiona!

I discovered a FANTASTIC Polish restaurant in Trenton called Rozmaryn Restaurant

I also discovered we have a wonderful support system of friends and family who rallied around us when my dad died.

I fulfilled my dad’s wishes of having his ashes scattered off the Jersey Shore.

I ended a relationship that had become stagnant and unfulfilling

Even though the relationship eventually ended, he did propose a few months prior which is something I wanted at one time. Unfortunately, by the time he did propose my priorities had shifted.

Very recently he showed up at my door and apologized for abandoning me at my time of need. This was something I had craved for a very long time. Unfortunately, as with the proposal, it came far too late and I had moved on. Still, it was nice that he tried.

I renewed my XM subscription at a great rate… I even added the ability to listen online.

I bought new office furniture, finally retiring the desk I’ve been using from IKEA since 1985.

I GOT HARDWOOD FLOORING!

I went to a TON of Beerfests and met people and laughed and danced and had a great time.

I experienced about a 2-3 month period where my mojo somehow, magically turned on. It was an amazing time, getting hit on by men and feeling very much desired. Clearly, men are attracted to broken women but it’s all good. I enjoyed it.

I watched my sister get her Master’s degree!

I bought a new pair of glasses and I bought fancy sunglasses: Prada Swing and Bellagio B660

I was hit on by a Buddy Holly impersonator

I was interviewed for a local news program– it hasn’t ever aired but heck, it was awesome just being interviewed!

I had a bunch of really nice articles written about me in local newspapers

I bought a Zombie Surf Squad boogie board for $5 that I can’t wait to use this summer

I got a new smart phone – the EVO 3d

I stayed at Fripp Island in a beautiful mansion for FREE and swam and drank and relaxed!

I experienced the Red Elvises with my sister and we had an AWESOME time!

Went to Blobfest and ran out of the theater!

I bought a Galaxy Tablet.

Went to two or three Professor Ouch’s Rockabilly Car Shows. Had a great time listening to Rockabilly and looking at gorgeous old cars.

Discovered Robert Gordon.

Went to St Louis for a potential business opportunity. It didn’t work out but I am happy I got on a plane and went.

Saw Micky Dolenz perform at the Parx Casino

Got on Match and eHarmony and dated a bunch of guys. Didn’t find the experience pulverizing this time.

I also enjoyed the company of a number of nice men but I was able to end the relationships maturely when I realized they weren’t going in the right direction. And in the one situation where the man ended it rather rudely, I am simply happy to be rid of him and feel lucky he is gone.

I toured the Yuengling Factory in Pottsville with Audra and Fiona

I saw the Rivers Rockabilly Trio play 3 times. At the Blob Ball, Bensalem Amphitheater, and the Mermaid Inn! I got to sing and dance AND I finally heard them play MY song, Donna!

I met a man that I like very very much. He has beautiful sideburns and he lets me stroke them. I don’t know if there is a future for us but I am so happy to finally have found a man who is kind and caring and funny and fun and affectionate.

I have started cooking again. Big E and I make some wonderful meals together and I love sharing the kitchen with him and enjoying what we make together.

I had a lovely Thanksgiving with my Aunt Helen and cousins!

I spent a wonderful Christmas in Chicago with my Cousin Sharon and her family.

I received some amazing presents for Christmas this year… namely a wonderful clock radio so I can listen to Rockin’ Ron Cade on Sunday mornings without static!

I had a fantastic New Year’s Eve with Audra, Steve, and Big E.

DONNA! I just read your last few entries and I’m feeling so shitty now about commenting on your failed resolutions. Truth is most people forget about their new year’s resolutions or never make any to begin with. You just happen to publish yours! If I really thought you were a failure I would have been nice and not said anything. 🙂 What are you cooking up in the kitchen? I’m curious.

Terms of cooking… Ernie and I have made Spaghetti and meatballs (meatballs from scratch!) a couple times. I also got back to making broccoli rabe and sausage with pasta… I haven’t ventured outside my comfort zone but I am cooking rather than doing lean cuisine.

I think I just needed someone to cook for….
