Things ain’t ever easy

On Friday I brought the exterminator back for a THIRD visit. He used a spray that he says he’s only allowed to use once a year so if this doesn’t kill these pesky ants, they will have dynamite the house. I am feeling confident that this will be the last visit and I am hoping all the poison he’s pumped into my house won’t affect me!

I’ve also been having issues with my heat pump. The inside unit leaked about 2 gallons of water through the ceiling into my kitchen. This happened last year and Ray came out and said he fixed it. But then it happened again this year. Ray’s not sure why it’s happening and he’s making me feel as if there’s some other situation going on. He put the dang heat pump in– and these units aren’t supposed to leak– not even once at the beginning of the season– right?? I have a feeling I am going to have to raise hell and I just hate that I have to push it.

It was 110 in Vegas last week and I went into the spare bedroom and their was water leaking through my roof. My central air must have clogged the drainage pipe and now it was coming through the bedroom in buckets. I had to turn the A/C off on the hottest day EVER in Vegas for that date. I have since got the wet vac and sucked the pipe clear, but geez!!!!

Before your exterminator chooses the “nuclear” option, they should reasses the strategy in general. You obviously have a nest, and barrier or spot treaments(even those designed to eradicate) are not ever going to kill them all.

I had a problem with carpenter ants that survived multiple “treatments”. On about the third visit, the exterminator tore the house apart looking for the nest. When he found it, it was a swirling, swarming ball of tens of thousands tucked safely away from prior treatment sites. The resultant killing orgy was truly mass ant genocide, as I had to SHOVEL dead ants from the location. Problem solved.

As for the heat pump…first have Ray sell you some of his company’s stock, then give him a pager (or possibly rent him the upstairs). The space shuttle requires fewer repairs than #@$%$@ heat pumps!

Hey Gomer! I read this article and thought of you: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127884011

And in terms of ants nests– I totally agree with you. There is clearly a nest that is just not getting treated. I am going to see what happens for now — hopefully it’s fixed but if not– I will go looking for the mama nest.

And the heat pump is driving me batty. I just had it installed 4 years ago? I am not even sure I needed to buy a new one! So not only was I duped into it but what was installed has done nothing but give me problems. I thought with a new one I’d get at least 10 years before any service would be needed— NOPE! But what are the alternatives? Fire?

“Kitchen Confidential” was an epiphany for me, how did you know that? I must have blogged about it in a past life, and your cougar-like reflexes dredged it from your memory.

I miss your blog but I don’t remember you blogging about Kitchen Confidential. I do remember you talking about loving food and wanting to train to be a chef.
